Friday 15th August 2014. Finally in Lignières for the start of the races, with a very wet track and muddy paddock. But everyone is motivated so let’s hope it will be fun !
First up, a Porsche 356 Coupé, probably the car with which the owner had come to Lignières.
Tents are very useful due to the very uncertain weather conditions, to protect the cars, especially the Formula and the barchettas from an eventual rain.
You got to love these Alpine A110, probably Jean Rédélé’s greatest creation along his career. There were no less than three on this rainy friday at the 2014 Lignieres Historic Racing Festival.
A Cobra replica and a classic Austin Mini Cooper S, two other motoring myths from automotive legends : Caroll Shelby and John Cooper. One was american, liked big engines, the other was british and had a revolutionary mind.
Historic motorbikes and side-cars are well represented as well at this edition, reminding me of the Ollon-Villars hillclimb. The atmosphere is very similar, the sounds, the smells as well.
Automotive events parking are always worth a look, and I was not disappointed, especially with these three cars representing almost Europe’s best : France, Germany, and Great-Britain, just missing Italy. A Renault 5 Turbo, which was one of the best Group B rally cars at its time, a Porsche 356 Coupe, the very first creation of Ferdinand Porsche after the Volkswagen Beetle, and a Triumph TR3, one of the most typical british roadster.
Two big news for this Lignieres edition : Abarth has brought along a bunch of 695 Biposto as official security car, and the first swiss electric Grand Prix will be held during the festival, showing that it is not only a reminder from the past, vut turned towards future as well. Tesla seemed to be very well represented…
Red madness : beautiful Lotus Elan 1600 S, or Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint 1300 GTA ? I would take the italian without any hesitations. I prefer its look, its sounds, and I would bet the driving experience might be slightly more intense.
The swiss auction house RT Auctions is planning to hold an auction during the festival with a few interesting lots, including a Bugatti Type 35 C monoseater, a BMW 327, and a Citroën DS ID19 Cabriolet Chapron.
The final car of the day : a Datsun 240 Z which had been very neatly prepared for racing.

Two Jaguar arrived, only representants of the british manufacturer, a XK140 in a rather original blue exterior color and a lightweight E Type replica.
Abarth is very well represented this year with no less than eight cars for the moment. What’s your pick ? The old or the new one ?
There is starting to have quite a few very nice pre-war cars, including this Bentley and Cadillac.

A Jaguar SS 100 and a beautiful Rolls-Royce Phantom 2 on the move to their exhibition places.
An Aston Martin DB4 with an associated typical James Bond number plate and British Racing green classic color was waiting for its colleagues.
Just arrived one hour before the official start, and yet there are already a few cars arriving, despite the bad weather. Especially the first car I notice is Abarth’s latest Biposto ready to be tested for the swiss customers.
