After a relatively intense and rainy night dictated by the rhythm of the safety car, the remaining competitors could finally start racing again around 08:10 in the morning, 4 hours and 28 minutes after the beginning of the safety car procedure. First green flag in 4 hours and a half
15 minutes later, one of the leading #92 Porsche 911 LMGT3s of Manthey Pure Rxcing was pushed back into the pits due to a gearbox selection issue. Mechanics gathered to replace electronic components as quickly as possible.
Around 9 o’clock, everyone switched from wet tires to slicks as the track dried sufficiently to support this type of compound.
Felipe Nasr lost control of his #4 Porsche Team Penske Porsche 963 between Mulsanne and Indianapolis. The Weissach-developed car will not rejoin the track, as Nasr exited safely. w
This marked the first retirement for a Porsche hypercar, joining both Alpines and the #15 BMW of Dries Vanthoor. Meanwhile, the fight for the third hypercar spot intensified between the #83 Ferrari, #50 Ferrari, and #7 Toyota.
Loads of action for a Sunday morning
The slow zone triggered by Nasr’s crash faded to a green flag around 9:34.

However, just a minute later, the biggest crash so far occurred at the Indianapolis curve, where Daniel Mancinelli flipped his #27 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 onto its roof, triggering the third safety car procedure of the race.
While the pack regrouped behind the safety car, the #3 Cadillac encountered a major issue around 10:15. Scott Dixon struggled to keep the car moving and managed to bring it back to the pits, where the Detroit racing car was retired from the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Once the safety car cleared the track for racing, a thrilling battle ensued between the #83, #50, and #7 hypercars, going three-wide after the Mulsanne curve. It was brilliant racing.
An hour later, Y. Ye (happy birthday, by the way) brought his #83 Ferrari 499P to the pits due to an apparent brake overheating issue. After some investigation, it appeared that the hybrid system was the cause, forcing the 6th retirement in the hypercar category.
