McLaren, the renowned Woking-based car manufacturer, is set to replace its grand tourer, the McLaren GT, with the new 2024 McLaren GTS. Contrary to industry trends, where most carmakers are expanding into the SUV market, McLaren maintains its unique. As the only major carmaker without an SUV offering, McLaren continues to focus on its core principles of supercar design: the carbon fibre MonoCell II-T monocoque and a V8 mid-engine. The extremely shy changes

The 2024 McLaren GTS, closely resembling its predecessor, could be dubbed the GT Mark 2 due to its minimal visual modifications. Changes are limited to the front and rear bumpers and headlights, which subtly enhance its dynamism but don’t significantly alter the GT’s established image.

Contrary to some expectations of a hybrid GT, given McLaren’s experience with the Artura, the GTS opts for minor upgrades. It features a recycled roof panel, an improved adaptive suspension, and carbon ceramic brakes as standard. Enhancements in its Grand Touring capabilities include an upgraded vehicle-lift system, which now elevates the car’s nose in less than half the time compared to the previous model.

Additionally, McLaren has expanded its customization options, offering a new range of bodywork colours, interior upholstery choices, and distinct “Turbine” alloy wheels.

Significantly, the GTS’s weight has been reduced to 1,520 kg, shedding 15 kg from the original GT, further refining its performance.

All that matters: an updated V8 engine

Maintaining its lineage from the GT, the 2024 McLaren GTS’s 4.0-liter V8 engine now produces 626 HP at 7,500 RPM (and 630 Nm of torque at 5,500-6,500 RPM), an increase of 15 HP over the GT.

This enhancement boosts the car’s power-to-weight ratio to an impressive 412 HP/ton. The additional horsepower is achieved through increased crankshaft torque, made possible by more aggressive combustion phasing and optimized ignition timing. This power upgrade allows the 2024 McLaren GTS to accelerate from 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds, reach 0-200 kph (0-124 mph) in 8.9 seconds, and attain a top speed of 326 kph (203 mph).

The vehicle is equipped with a seven-speed SSG transmission, with a different tuning between modes (just like suspensions). The Active Dynamics Panel allows drivers to switch between three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Track. Sport mode brings a more dynamic driving experience with quicker, more aggressive gear shifts achieved through momentary ignition-spark-cut technology. Track mode further enhances gearbox performance, ensuring minimal torque loss during shifts. Additionally, manual gear shifts can be controlled via paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel in any driving mode.

2024 McLaren GTS price

While official pricing for the 2024 McLaren GTS has not yet been released, it is anticipated that the cost will exceed that of its predecessor, the outgoing McLaren GT. Currently, the McLaren GT is priced at $208,490 (€206,548 — £167,560 — CHF195,000), setting a benchmark for the expected price range of the new GTS model. This estimation is based on the upgrades and enhancements that the GTS brings over the previous GT version.

Customers eager to acquire the new 2024 McLaren GTS can start configuring their vehicle right away using the official McLaren configurator, making it an ideal way to plan for a unique Christmas gift. Orders for the new Grand Tourer are currently being accepted, with deliveries scheduled to commence in 2024.
