Lamborghini 643 V8 Engine

The Lamborghini 634 engine ushers in a new era

Lamborghini is turning a page in its history with the introduction of the Lamborghini 634, the successor to the Huracán. Set to join the High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) lineup, the Lamborghini 634 engine is a twin-turbo V8 engine paired with a hybrid system incorporating three electric motors. The powertrain also includes the new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which debuted on the Lamborghini Revuelto and has been optimized for the 634, pushing its output to over 888 HP.

While there’s palpable excitement for this new engine, there’s also a sense of mourning for the end of an era. The 5.2-litre V10 engine, synonymous with Lamborghini’s roaring Huracán and Audi R8, will be phased out. The new twin-turbo V8, though promising, marks a significant shift. Will it keep the emotions and the driving experience that the owners are looking for?

The answer to that question is promising, on paper. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 will deliver 789 HP between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm, with the redline set at 10,000 rpm, thanks to titanium conrods. The high power output is closely linked with the twin-turbo system (placed inside the V: Hot-V Engine) and the injection system, which pushes the fuel into the combustion chamber at a pressure of 350 bars. With help from the hybrid system, the maximum torque is set at 730 Nm between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm. The rear electric system (in P1 position: between the internal combustion engine and the gearbox) is designed to fit compactly and maintain low weight, contributing an additional 300 Nm and 148 HP at 3,500 rpm.

According to Lamborghini, sound engineering has been crucial in the development process, ensuring that the new flat-plane crankshaft powerhouse from Sant’Agata Bolognese matches the level of the V10, even in terms of progressiveness.

Set for launch in 2024, the Lamborghini 634 will undoubtedly mark a new milestone for Lamborghini, which has lagged behind Ferrari and others in the electrification era.
