IAA – Frankfurt International Motorshow 2013

Getting out of Audi’s hall, we returned to glance at the new Stratos, admiring this beautiful reinterpretation and homage this modern car is to its original sister. Every single aspect or element that made the original Stratos’s success has been kept: the Ferrari engine, the short wheelbase that made this car behave so specially, the global look which has just been modernised. As I said, it is a bit of a shame this car will stay as a one-off.

Walking the very long way to BMW’s hall, we went back to see if there had been any modifications and indeed in the lounge a beautiful marine blue Wraith had just appeared for the second press day. It was as well fitted with the beautiful glowing transparent sapphire Spirit of Ecstasy sculpture on the bonnet, which strengthened the majestic look of this already impressive Rolls-Royce. The newly wood panels on the Wraith contribute to give this car a unique prestigious feeling once you step inside. It is the most powerful car Rolls Royce has ever built, and the confirmed sales exceed well the expectation from Crewe’s engineers and market plan.

BMW was very keen on showing visitors how important their new technology for their electric i-models. The i3 is already available for sale but the i8 is still in development, so it was the opportunity to have a closer look at these prototypes and I couldn’t really imagine what would be the differences with the production version as they looked like finished products.

The famous Motorsport department of BMW had its own very dark space in the giant stand, where the M marketing experts had decided to showcase an M5, an M6 Gran Coupe and a X6 M. I had already seen the standard 6 Series Gran Coupe at Geneva Motorshow, and I already loved it so the more aggressive-looking, more powerful M version did have its little effect. Actually, looking afterwards at the M5, I really wondered between both of these cars, which one I would get, and I think I would go for the M6. The only reason why I would take the M5 is if I needed a fifth seat in the car, as the M6 is a 4-door coupe with only four seats.

Moving on to Chevrolet, we had the chance to get a closer look at the Corvette C7, which I had as well already seen at Geneva Motorshow back in march where it was presented. And personally, I think both the coupe and the convertible look absolutely stunning… Now we’ll have to judge hands on the steering wheel to see if this car’s worth its mythic name.

Going back to Tony Stark’s favourite car, the Acura – Honda NSX is still undergoing its prototype phase for the moment. I really couldn’t find a single point of view where this car is bad looking, although, I still find the Audi R8 better looking as the proportions seem very similar. One car that we’ve seen in the films but never in any motorshow is the spyder or convertible version of the NSX as featured in Iron Man 2.
