2015 Goodwood Revival

Part 2 : The RAC TT race and the Cobra Daytona

The Tourist Trophy is probably the most exclusive race for 60’s GT cars owners. As all the Goodwood races, you have to be invited to be part of the race and to participate to the most exciting race in this world.
The TT is a race so fascinating and spectacular that you will look at the full race even if you are not a car enthousiast.
Each year, I told myself the same : “How and why do they (the driver) do that to these cars ?”. But these cars are made to be driven fast, with powerslide in each corner. They are made to be broken and rebuilt, as a modern race car. They are made to race, to race together.

Speaking of “broken and rebuilt”, maybe 60% of the cars had to be rebuilt at the end of the week end. The Ferrari Breadvan, the Cobra 289 FIA of Ludovic Caron, some Jaguar E-Type, the Aston Martin DB214, the 330 end the 250 GTO. They all finished with some damages to repear.

Goodwood Revival 2015 was also the unique opportunity since 50 years to see all the 6 Cobra Daytona together. This is something which never happened by the past and which will probably not happened soon.

The “Daytona” was built to beat Enzo Ferrari’s 250 GTO. The original 289 FIA was enough powerfull for the small tracks, but not enough aerodynamic for the long tracks with huge straights, as Le Mans. Because Ferrari cheated with the 36 GTO instead of 100, the FIA was not able to refuse the Cobra Daytona with the same argumentation : This was just an aerodynamic evolution of the classic car.

As frequently with this kind of racing cars, the 6 cobra are all different. A lot a small details – like the hood, the rear spoiler, the roof line, the glasses – create a unique car. It’s up to you to choose your favorite !

Now, we just have to wait for the next edition, on september 9th, 10th and 11h 2016.
