A big engine for big performances

Chevrolet didn’t communicate any performance level on the new Corvette Z06. However, the 5.5-litre, naturally aspirated, V8 engine is now developing 671 hp (680 CV/PS, 500 kW) and 623 Nm (459 ft-lb) of torque. The LT6 engine reaches its peak power at 8,400 rpm, very close to the red line (8,600 rpm).

Don’t associate low revving engines with America anymore — with the Z06. In fact, the Chevrolet Corvette C8 (Stingray), revs at 6600 rpm — 2000 rpm lower. How did they get there? Flat-plane crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, improved cooling system, and much more. What’s best in it? It sounds like a Formula One car! Of course, an American car comes with rear-wheel drive. So is the Z06. The engine delivers power to the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Inspired by the Corvette racing car

The Chevrolet Corvette C8.R is a big contender in every endurance race, especially in the 2021 24h of Le Mans race. In fact, it is so good that Chevrolet engineers decided to use its chassis as a basis for the Corvette Z06. Also, they tuned the Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 suspension differently, so that the wheels really stick to the road.

Talking about wheels, the Z06 is fitted with big ones: 275/30 R20 for the front, and 345/25 R21 for the rear, which bring on a wider stance (9.4 cm — 3.6 inches). From memory, these are the biggest tires ever seen on a road legal Corvette. Furthermore, bigger, 6 pistons brakes now fit the Z06, for better performances. Beware, Chevrolet announces a 1.22 G lateral G-Force, which is very close to a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

And some more aerodynamics

Would be considered a fool the one who ignores aerodynamics (hello Enzo!). Sure, the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a new performance driven exterior. With optional aerodynamic elements, such as an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing, a new front bumper (with big fenders) and a front splitter. As mentioned above, we have, yet, no clue of the basic Z06 performances, but we guess that it will be fast, very fast.

Z07 package for more performance

For track maniacs, the Z06 will be available with an optional Z07 Performance package, adding carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber rims (optional) that provide a huge weight saving: 18.6 kg (41 lbs) — 1561 kg in total (3434 lb). Sure, the aerodynamic elements we introduced above, without forgetting the Michelin Sport Cup 2 R ZP tires, are specifically developed for the Z07 package. And we know this package allows this new bodybuilder to reach 100 kph (62 mph) in 2.6 seconds. A rocket.

Naturally, Chevrolet should come back with more information on their new, cutting-edge supercar, like the Nordschleife lap time, weight, price and much more. As every gram counts on track for perfection, every detail counts on the path of purchasing. Thrilled to buy one? You can already customize your 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the builder here.
