Third in a row for the Ferrari 499P

The race’s main headline came from the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P. In a fiercely competitive Hypercar field, the customer-entered machine defied expectations and outpaced factory rivals, with Robert Kubica steering it to the top step of the podium. This marks the first-ever win by a customer team under the current Hypercar regulations, and Ferrari’s third consecutive Le Mans victory since the introduction of the hypercar era.

The #6 Porsche Penske, led by Kevin Estre, finished second after a legendary drive, having started deep in the field. The #51 factory Ferrari secured third, confirming Maranelloโ€™s strength with a 1-3 result.

Tensions were high throughout. Ferrari’s internal politics became apparent when earlier in the race Kubica in the #83 was reportedly told not to overtake Giovinazzi in the #51 despite consistently closing the gap. Both cars, along with nine others, served drive-through penalties for yellow flag infractions, further mixing the order.

Peugeotโ€™s #93 suffered a long steering rack repair, and Toyotaโ€™s #8 losing a wheel nut due to suspension failure. Cadillacโ€™s pole-sitting cars faded as the race progressed, and the #311 retiring due to propulsion loss.

LMP2: Poland Strikes Again

In LMP2, Inter Europol Competition repeated its triumph of the centenary with an incredible pace recovery after serving a drive-through penalty. Tom Dillmann led the charge in the #43 Oreca.

VDS Panis Racing pushed hard with the #48 but ultimately settled for second. IDEC Sportโ€™s #28 had early promise, but contact at Indianapolis dropped them out of podium contention before retiring for a rear right wheel going off. The #199 AO by TF car won the Pro-Am subcategory.

LMGT3: Porsche’s Statement Win

The #92 Manthey 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R won in LMGT3 with surgical consistency and strong pace, despite the leading BMWs bad luck: BMW WRTโ€™s two entries (#46 and #31) both retired, one due to electrical issues, the other after striking a rabbit. The #92 Porsche drivers pushed the car to a commanding lead, with the team finishing more than 40 seconds ahead.

The #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari and the #81 TF Sport Corvette Z06 rounded out the podium.

Endurance tested across the field

Mechanical wear and durability played a huge role. Notable DNFs included #311 Cadillac, #88 Mustang, and #60 Mercedes-AMG. Tire and wheel reliability became a recurring issue, with several teams, including Toyota and IDEC Sport suffering dramatic failures.

On the human side, Kevin Estre emerged as the standout driver. Starting last in the Hypercar category, he powered through the field and anchored Porscheโ€™s challenge. Robert Kubica, Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson finally claimed a Le Mans win, a moment of redemption after losing out dramatically in LMP2 in 2021.

The 2025 Le Mans will be remembered for its unprecedented customer win, strong crowd turnout, and a highly competitive grid that stretched every team to its limits. For Ferrari, the message is clear: factory or customer, theyโ€™re here to win.
